Dear dad,

When I sat on your lap and pretended to drive, I was imitating you.

While you sat behind the wheel and drove me to soccer practice, I was hoping to grow up and be just like you.

When I caught your eye watching me in the rear view mirror, I smiled knowing you were always looking out for me.

While you waited in line to pick me up from school, I couldn’t wait to hop in the car and make you proud.

When you taught me how to wash a car, I couldn’t wait to spray you with the water hose.

When you asked me about my life as we sat in the drive-thru line, I listened to your wisdom and years of experience.

When you told me about the oldies on the radio, I shook my head and rolled my eyes… but I also thought the music was actually pretty good.

When you drove for miles and miles to my tournaments and competitions, I was grateful for your sacrifices.

When you took the passenger seat and let me get behind the wheel the first time, I was trying to be just like you.

When you handed me your keys and told me to go have fun, I thought you were the best dad around.

Looking back, I see that you’ve been a driving force all of my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you, dad, for always getting me where I need to go and keeping me on the straight and narrow road.

Happy Father’s Day.
